• Detail and evaluate the major theories and key concepts used by social scientists to analyse gender, equality and identity.
• Critically assess the contribution of sociological analysis to an understanding of contemporary trends in gender, equality and identity.
• Evaluate the empirical trends and patterns identified by social scientists exploring issues such as: living in a gendered world; theorizing gender; gender, class and race. the Irish Women’s Movement; understanding masculinity(ies).
• Develop an independent and critical perspective on the sociological analysis of gender, equality and identity.
