• Familiar with aspects of the work of the songwriters
• Familiar with the differing styles of expression – and music – used by the writers.
• Conversant with the personal issues that each songwriter deals with in his/her work.
• Capable of critiquing aspects of the work of all of the songwriters.
• Have experienced the ideas behind the songs and the methods used by each songwriter to communicate those ideas
• Able to reflect upon the merit of popular culture as a critical tool for meaning making and personal transformation.

• Workshop situations using recording; video clips; interviews and performances by the twelve songwriters. Familiarity with the lyrics and issues through the use of handouts. Discussion of the work, lives and issues of all the writers in a workshop situation.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Continuous Assessment 100% Class Participation 20% ; End of Module Assignment 80%.
