The first section of the course will deal with the theory of ethnography through an examination of several influential texts. Secondly visits to field-sites will be undertaken with a view to learning how to conduct note-taking, photography, and other forms of documentation. This will be followed by in-class presentations and discussion of the merits of various forms of data analysis. We shall then conclude with an appreciation of the diversity of the genre by looking at the wider application of contemporary research.
