The departmental academic staff set the research topics. Collectively the topics cover a wide range of biological and environmental disciplines, and where possible, the student will have an element of choice on the subject area. Individual topics will have a narrow enough focus to ensure a survey of the primary literature is appropriate. The student must identify relevant sources of information, assimilate their contents, and use the information to synthesise an informative discussion of the research topic. The student must present their work as a written thesis and as an oral presentation.
Third year grades and/or a written statement of interest may be used to allocate a limited number of projects. The Biology department will oversee allocation in week 1. Students may be required to amend module registration after project allocation to ensure that they are registered for sufficient credits in the academic year.
Please note students can choose only one 10 credit module from modules BI450; BI452 or BI453 in any academic year.
