Module BIOGEOGRAPHICAL PRIOR PROJECT

Module code: BI452
Credits: 10
Semester: Year-Long
Department: BIOLOGY
International: No
Coordinator: Dr Conor Meade (BIOLOGY)
Overview Overview

This module comprises a field research placement at a host partner affiliated with the MH203 programme, completed during Summer vacation prior to the beginning of semester 1 in fourth-year. Field work carried out during the placement including but not limited to field surveys, environmental data gathering, landscape and eco-system analysis, biodiversity evaluation and stakeholder surveys, will be used as a basis for preparation of a research dissertation on the completed work. Students will be paired with host partners based on placement type, geographic/access considerations and overall suitability of the student for the role.

Students should note that there are a limited number of projects available in each academic year. The Biology Department oversees the allocation of projects in the first week of the new academic year and allocation is based on ranking of student applicants according to their personal statement and third-year grades. Therefore, students may not be allocated a project and may be required to amend their module registration after project allocation to ensure that they are registered for sufficient credits in each semester.

Please note students can choose only one 10 credit module from modules BI450; BI452 or BI453 in any academic year.
