This module comprises an applied data analysis project to be completed in partnership with external environmental data organisation as a remote internship. A data portfolio will be shared with student, comprising a data rescue exercise, where the purpose is to compile, analyse, evaluate and interpret the supplied dataset. Supervision will be provided by a MU supervisor and a Data Partner supervisor.
The module comprises independent research and data analysis, completed by the student, with academic supervision. The range of analytical objectives will be agreed between supervisors and students on a case by case basis, depending on the dataset and the identified priorities of the host partner. Direct contact hours will comprise 2-way meetings between the student & MU supervisor, with additional 3-way meetings including the External Data Partner supervisor.
Students should note that there are a limited number of projects available in each academic year. The Biology Department oversees the allocation of projects in the first week of the new academic year and allocation is based on ranking of student applicants according to their personal statement and third-year grades. Therefore, students may not be allocated a project and may be required to amend their module registration after project allocation to ensure that they are registered for sufficient credits in each semester.
Please note students can choose only one 10 credit module from modules BI450, BI452 or BI453 in any academic year.
