This module will enable the student to become familiar with relevant aspects of the biotechnology industry (relevant technologies, Research and Development operations, manufacturing operations, quality management systems, patenting etc.). The student will be required to obtain information from the scientific literature, company information, biological, social and internet resources on specific areas of biotechnology in order to collate a detailed literature report. Expertise will also be gained in how to perform biochemical calculations to aid understanding of the scientific literature. The student will also acquire presentational skills, both verbal and written, by class participation, oral presentation, and literature review. Individuals working in the biotechnology industry or research area will be invited to present to the class.
