| A year of study is 60 credits. First year - Engineering Science is taken with Mathematics, Computer Science [15 or 30 credits] and 1 other Science subject from Chemistry, Data Science, Experimental Physics, Mathematical Physics. Engineering Science cannot be taken with Biology. Students taking Engineering Science must also take Computer Science. Students may take Computer Science and not take Engineering Science.
Second year - Students take Engineering Science
- Mathematics
- Choose 1 other subject
- Optional 10 credit Critical Skills or Electives
or - Students who attain 50% or better in their first sitting in their 1st year exams (taking Engineering Science, Mathematics and Computer Science) have the option of transferring to the second year of the BE Electronic Engineering degree
Third year - Continue with 2 Science subjects
Fourth year - You choose between Engineering Science as a (i) Single Major or (ii) Double Major degree
- Available Science subjects in conjunction with Engineering Science: Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Experimental Physics, Mathematical Physics or Statistics
Students who attain 50% or better in their first sitting in their first year exams (taking Engineering Science, Mathematics and Computer Science) have the option of transferring to the second year of the BE Electronic Engineering degree. Duration: 4 years Disclaimer The modules below are indicative of the content associated with this course of study. The modules are subject to change as the curriculum is revised and reviewed annually. Please check periodically for updates. | Year 1 | | Subject Overview >Electronic Engineering and Engineering Science are at the forefront of technological change - developing the newest phones, computers, toys, robots and cars. One of the newest areas for electronic engineers is the space where software and hardware meet. >Through our research programmes, Electronic Engineering at Maynooth has developed world-class expertise in the area of mobile communications, biomedical diagnostics and technologies, and the intelligent control of large machines such as Robots or wave machines. >Each of these areas is matched to rapidly growing industries and excellent job opportunities. By bringing this deep knowledge to all the undergraduate programmes, we provide our graduates with a world-class electronic engineering education but also a head start in these exciting and important areas. >Potential transfer opportunity having completed 1st year MH201 Engineering Science to 2nd year MH304 BE Electronic Engineering. See MH201 COURSE STRUCTURE overview for any specific subject combination limits/requirements in the BSc degree.
