Mature students - Information:

Mature student applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time degrees the mature age is 21. Admission is based on application and/or interview. O3/H7 Mathematics or equivalent recommended.

Apply to the CAO by February 1st 2022. Late applications from mature students may be accepted after this date - consult the Undergraduate Studies website for updates. Application may not be made to the CAO after May 1st 2022.

Mature students must complete the CAO section for mature applicants fully, indicating clearly past or current studies, and outlining educational goals and objectives. Applicants are assessed on the basis of the information provided on their CAO application form. All questions should be answered in full.

Mature student applicants who have a disability

How to apply

Course structure

Computer Science & 1 other subject to degree level.

First year

Take either 15 credits (group 5) or 30 credits (group 5 & 7) of Computer Science
Plus choose 2 or 3 other subjects or Critical Skills from the 5 groups available (max 1 per group)

Second & third year

Computer Science as a Double Major, Major/Minor or as a Minor with 1 of your first year subjects
Optional 10 credit Electives in second year

Option to transfer to a specialised degree MH601 (BSc Computer Science through Arts), if students have taken 30 credits of Computer Science plus 15 credits of Mathematical Studies
Or
15 credits of Computer Science plus an additional 7.5 credits including the module CS172 in the second semester of first year (22.5 credits in total) plus the 15 credits of Mathematics

Students may apply to study overseas after second year (on Erasmus or Study Abroad) and graduate with a BA (International) after 4 years. See the International Studies website for details.

COMPUTER SCIENCE

Computer Science at Maynooth University is the study of the principals and use of computers and software. Students enjoy the huge benefit of studying other Arts subjects with Computer Science in first year with options to take different degree paths afterwards. Advanced topics such as computer vision, theoretical computer studies, robotics, cryptography and artificial intelligence may be studied, depending on the pathway students take.

Either 15 or 30 credits of Computer Science.
If taking the 30 credit option: the extra 15 credits are timetabled outside of groups 1-6 so you may choose other subjects from groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 6.
Only one of these can be taken as a double subject since the extra 15 credits for each are taught at the same time: Anthropology, Computer Science, German (beginner), History, International Development, Law, Sociology, Spanish (beginner).
Recommend O3/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics.
