This course requires 2 additional subjects Mature students - Information: Mature Applicants Mature applicants are assessed separately to school-leavers. Mature applicants are 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time/flexible degrees the mature age is 21. Mature applicants who have a disability If you have a disability or specific learning difficulty (e.g. dyslexia), and require examination support for any required written exercise/interview which may form part of your application assessment please submit supporting documentation by 15 March 2026 to the Access Office. Unfortunately we are unable to consider applications for alternative examination accommodation after this deadline. Mature students - Closing dates for application: 01 July 2026 |

| Leaving Certificate Applicants - this is a new degree beginning in 2026. Points will not be known until CAO Round 1 offers in August 2026. Required to present (as a minimum): 2H5 & 4O6/H7 and O6/H7 in Irish, English & Science subject (one of Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, or Physics with Chemistry) & O4/H7 in Mathematics. HEAR and DARE DARE: The Disability Access Route to Education is a third level alternative admissions scheme for school-leavers whose disabilities have had a negative impact on their second level education. HEAR: The Higher Education Access Route is a third level admissions scheme for school leavers from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. | Career options: After Graduation Upon graduation many students obtain employment in the Pharmaceutical or Life science industries. Students also enrol in taught Masters courses in a variety of areas such as Biotechnology, Molecular Medicine, Immunology or Microbiology. Students also pursue research degrees (MSc or PhD) in fundamental science or clinical research. The BSc in Biomedical Science does not provide the qualification required to work as a Medical Scientist in a hospital diagnostic laboratory.
