On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• LO1: Identify key issues in the evolution of visual culture in Spain and Latin America.
• LO2: Describe different types of Spanish and Latin American political film making, from Surrealism to the road movie.
• LO3: Explain how paratextual issues have been reflected in the development of Spanish and Latin American film practice and theory.
• LO4: Critique and evaluate films with reference to theories of Spanish and Latin American cinema.

• Penalties: Late submission of assessed coursework or examination materials will result in a reduction of the original grade by 5 marks per day. Assessed coursework or examination materials will normally have to be submitted electronically through Turnitin. Late submission of work owing to medical or other compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the relevant submission deadline and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a Medical Certificate). Attendance for this module is monitored regularly. If attendance falls below 70% of session hours, the mark will be capped at 35% for this module. This module condition will not be applied to repeat examinations. Absence owing to medical or other compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the missed class and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a Medical Certificate).

**This 5-ECTS credit module may be used as part of the 15-ECTS credits in the study of literature (including drama, poetry, fiction, film studies etc.) required for accreditation by the Teaching Council of Ireland. All applications submitted for Teaching Council accreditation are, however, subject to the Teaching Council’s internal evaluation processes.
