| This module introduces students to how sociologists explore and explain the key features of society. The module explores how contemporary Irish society is formed through global interdependencies and connections, including topics such as environment and climate change, migration, global culture, new technologies and economic globalisation. How are the boundaries and self-identity of Ireland changing? How is Ireland similar to and different from other societies? The module also introduces students to how sociologists use research methods to investigate and explain key features and puzzles in the social world. The module analyses real world sociological questions using examples of evidence such as observation of social situations, analysis of cultural objects, surveys of the public and interviews and focus groups. Students are given the tools to begin the journey to become researchers of the social world. |
