How does the European Union work? This module examines the European Union and its institutions to interrogate how and why the EU works and why it matters. The course will explore the history of the EU and its key institutions, such as the Council of the EU, the European Council, European Commission, European Parliament and Court of Justice and explain how each of the EU institutions work, and how they contribute to politics and policy making. It will examine issues such as the rule of law and the relationship between the EU and its member states. It will also ask whether the EU might expand its membership to the Western Balkans and Ukraine and how the EU is changing as a result of the Ukraine War.
