Module INDIVIDUAL PROJECT

Module code: MU624
Credits: 10
Semester: Year-Long
Department: MUSIC
International: No
Overview Overview

This module gives students the opportunity to explore a topic of their choice, as long as this is aligned with the expertise of the Music Department and once a suitable member of academic staff is available to supervise. In the first instance, students interested in this module should contact the coordinator, Dr Laura Watson.

The project may be completed in Semester 1 or Semester 2. Accordingly, tutorials with the supervisor take place in Semester 1 or 2 only. Students must discuss initial plans with Dr Watson early in Semester 1. After this meeting, students may avail of up to 4 hours of tuition with the supervisor over Semester 1 or 2.

The form of this musicological project is decided between the student and supervisor. Examples of projects include: an essay c. 5,000 words; a podcast c.40 minutes; an edited score and short commentary.

NB: the topic of the Individual Project must be substantively different to that addressed in MU640 Thesis or in the work submitted for assessment in any other module.

NB: students based outside the Music Department must have demonstrable musical knowledge (including score literacy) in order to register for the module.
