• Semester 1: 4 introductory lectures/workshops on research and writing methods: - Choosing a topic and understanding research contexts - Annotating a bibliography; sources and resources, including digital resources - Structuring and writing a dissertation - Seminars and research networks Semesters 1 and 2: regular attendance at the Music Department's Research Seminar Series, which runs most weeks (details confirmed in September) Semesters 1 and 2: regular individual tutorials with an assigned supervisor

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): * Semester 1: Submission of Dissertation Introduction and Select Annotated Bibliography * Semester 1: Seminar Report on Semester 1 seminar * Semester 2: Seminar Report on Semester 2 seminar * Semester 2: Submission of minor, 6,000-word dissertation (excluding footnotes, bibliography, appendices). NB: dissertations that exceed the advised length by more than 10% will be penalised.

• Penalties: The Department regards deadlines as absolute and operates a system of penalties for late submission. See the Department Undergraduate Handbook for full details.

• Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes
• Continuous assessment marks are carried forward to the autumn. Dissertations-theses, recitals and composition-music technology portfolios presented for the first time in the Autumn Supplemental Examination Session will be capped at 40% in the absence of fully proven mitigating circumstances.

Required reading will be set by the lecturer or supervisor on a weekly or other basis, as necessary.
