Module code: MU317
Credits: 10
Semester: Year-Long
Department: MUSIC
International: Yes
Overview Overview

The module aims to expose students to the wide variety of styles and ideas in Contemporary Western Art Music. It focuses on the creation of a portfolio of new works for varying forces, building on the techniques learnt in Introduction to Composition (MU218). This is combined with compositional learning from some core works of this past century. Semester 1 deals with practical and analytical issues in the context of two small duo workshop pieces, while Semester 2 concentrates on the composition of a work for larger ensemble, as well as a work for guest professional performers.

Visiting International Students in Maynooth for one semester or one academic year should contact the Department of Music for information before registering.
