Overview Overview

This module will give a brief overview of the Irish and international leisure and tourism industries before examining the main equestrian disciplines/activities in Ireland which contribute to the sector here. It will assess the role of equestrian ‘gateway’ organisations and associated bodies such as Failte Ireland and Tourism Ireland. It will examine the popularity, funding and economic performance of the different disciplines/activities which make up the Irish equine leisure and tourism sector. It will review policies in place to broaden and enhance the appeal of equine activities and events to the public and tourists. As part of this review, iconic equine events, for example, the Dublin Horse Show, will be examined and the role and appeal of such events within the wider leisure and tourism sector discussed.
