Module STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT: TOOLS AND CONCEPTS

Module code: MI6219
Credits: 10
Semester: 1
Department: BUSINESS
International: No
Overview Overview

The focus of strategy is upon making decisions that improve the performance of the organisation. This module provides participants with a range of strategic management concepts and tools from which an advanced insight into the process of strategy formulation emerges. In exploring the factors which influence organisational performance, we will look at multiple levels of analysis, from individual to group to country-level. This module will not focus on recipes, but rather on a set of strategic management principles which participants can use to think about designing and implementing a strategy dependent on the environmental circumstances that their organisation is facing.

Working in groups and individually, participants will develop their strategy formulation and implementation capabilities, including development of recommendations to decision makers that are rooted in appropriate strategy analysis. The students will learn how to use reliable evidence from scientific and practice-oriented sources to inform strategic decisions. Capabilities to communicate and participate effectively in a strategy making process will be developed through class interaction, group work, and written and verbal presentations.
