This module presents key theoretical concepts, approaches, and research questions to enable students to develop a thorough understanding of the field's conceptual underpinnings as well as to inform research undertaken for MA dissertation and PhD thesis projects. Through weekly seminars and a conference-paper in-class presentation that form the basis for a final essay, students explore a range of media theories from humanities and social sciences, engaging with their historical and scholarly contexts. Exploring and critiquing central arguments and critical debates in the field, students develop a repertoire of theoretical frames for media studies inquiry.
