On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• Have an understanding of styles, roles and scope of leadership within development work.
• Have a knowledge of the dynamics within groups and an awareness of appropriate responses by leaders.
• Comprehend how relationships of power, conflict, can be identified and addressed within group settings.
• Clearly articulate their reflections on each of the above.

• 24 lecture hours 100% Continuous Assessment Reflective Learning Paper (40%): One short reflection paper (750 - 800 words). The Reflection Paper will draw from the sessions in the first half of the module and will be required to be submitted after the Study Week (Week 7). Exact date to be confirmed. Final Summative Essay (60%) A written paper (1 x 2,000 - 2,500 words) with complete bibliography - based upon ideas, approaches, activities and key readings introduced during the sessions, will be required at the end of the module.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Continuous Assessment detail(s): Assessment is by 100% continuous assessment, i.e. short written assignments, and a final summative essay at the end of the module. Given the experiential learning focus and group work requirements of this course, a participation requirement for all lecture sessions (whereby students must attend a minimum of 75% of all sessions) will earn students 5% of their continuous assessment grade.

• Autumn repeat students may submit continuous assessment work by a date before the Autumn examination, which will be specified by the department. Students are responsible for familiarising themselves with this deadline. If students do not submit by the deadline, the existing continuous assessment mark will be carried forward to the Autumn. No continuous assessment work will be accepted after this date. This will apply except upon presentation of a medical certificate covering the relevant period or in other extremely extenuating circumstances, which must be communicated to, and accepted by, the lecturer prior to, or immediately after, the relevant deadline.

• The course is primarily intended for students that have completed 15 credits in first year modules. However, International or Occasional students who have a clear interest in taking the module are welcome to apply.
