On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• demonstrate understanding and knowledge of main developments in the history of Yugoslavia and Yugoslav-Irish cultural and diplomatic relations
• demonstrate and apply understanding of representations and images of Yugoslavia in Irish sources
• demonstrate the capacity for independent thought in the handling of historical sources
• critically engage with the relevant main historiographical debates, and develop their own ideas and positions in relation to them

• 24 contact hours or equivalent (lectures, seminars, field trips, etc.) Module requires active in-person participation and/or essential practical exercises.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): 5,000 word essay or shorter essay combined with class assignments/tests. Essay to be submitted by Monday prior to commencement of end-of-semester examinations.

• Could the result of this module be capped? Failure to meet module condition(s). There is an attendance condition attached to this module. A student must attend a minimum of 50% of the module lectures. If this condition is not met the module result is capped at a maximum of 35%.

• For autumn, the module attendance condition still applies. A student must attend a minimum of 50% of the module lectures. If this condition is not met the module result is capped at a maximum of 35%. The essay/project component only may be submitted. There will be no re-submission of other continuous assessment components. Marks received during the semester in respect of in-class tests, presentations etc., will be carried over. Essays/projects for autumn supplemental must be submitted by 1 August and may be capped.
