This module, which begins with the Italian aggression against the Ottoman Empire in 1911, covers a period often referred to as the ‘European Civil War’. It examines the links between the two World Wars and covers the two decades that separated them, noting the retreat of liberal democracy in the face of fascism and communism. The module closes with an examination of Europe’s prospects in 1945.
