On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• identify the key developments that occurred in the United States and the colonies that preceded it during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries
• have a knowledge of the chronology of American history from the period preceding the American Revolution to the US Civil War and of how historical events and processes interacted
• use a varied range of primary source material
• through completing module assessment, have further developed writing and analytical skills
