On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• Demonstrate best practice in completing an ethics protocol;
• Articulate, assess and critically evaluate the ethical issues arising in research;
• Identify copyright, data protection and data storage requirements with regard to their research;
• Successfully complete a research submission for ethical approval.

• This module will take the form of a workshop focused on research ethics and writing issues in the Social Sciences. The module does not focus on Bioethics. Those who wish to attend a Bioethics workshop should visit https://www.maynoothuniversity.ie/rsdp or contact rsdp@mu.ie.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): The core activity of this module is for each participant to obtain ethical approval. All students must: · Attend an ethics workshop delivered by the Chair of their relevant Faculty ethics subcommittee; · Submit a complete application for ethical approval; · Resubmit the application to the ethics committee where appropriate; · Obtain ethical approval.
