	Overview
	This module consists of a systematic introduction to the grammar and vocabulary of the Latin language. The focus will be on language acquisition, but some attention in passing is given also to Roman cultural and literary contexts, as well as to later linguistic influence of Latin. Taken together with GC299, the module will enable students to proceed to the guided reading of original texts towards the end of the year.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Identify and explain basic Latin grammar and syntax Recognise a broad range of Latin vocabulary. Demonstrate the ability to read simplified passages of Latin. Demonstrate the ability to compose short phrases of Latin. Develop a deeper understanding of general language structures, including English grammar. Develop broadly transferable skills of analysis and synthesis.
