The module will begin with a survey of theories on first and second language acquisition. We will then consider multiple competencies in language learning, teaching culture with language, and how learners’ characteristics affect their language acquisition. The module emphasises applied language pedagogy. We will design lesson plans, consider approaches to teaching and assessment, and strategise about common challenges. The module will also include a brief overview of French linguistics as it pertains to language teaching, with particular focus on major points of contrast with English.
