For a long time, francophone Indigenous writing has been vastly overlooked by Quebec literary studies. This is even more so the case for Indigenous women’s writing in Quebec, with their voices having been silenced and erased from cultural history. Through a focus on three key texts, this module will examine the experiences of Indigenous women in Quebec in conjunction with the long political and cultural history of oppression, patriarchy, and colonization and demonstrate the importance of listening to their stories.
