Module BEGINNING FRENCH 2

Module code: FR261
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: FRENCH
International: Yes
Coordinator: Dr Julie Rodgers (FRENCH)
Overview Overview

This module is aimed at students who are interested in continuing to develop their French language skills as a follow on from FR260. It will appeal to all types of students - those who have a genuine interest in deepening their knowledge of the French language and culture as well as those who are motivated to develop French language skills and (inter)cultural competence to enhance their employment prospects on the domestic and international labour markets. French as an elective subject is open to Second Year undergraduate and all postgraduate students and will be delivered on a blended-learning basis with two live contact hours per week accompanied by asynchronous content accessible on Moodle at any time. This module aims to continue to develop students' confidence and accuracy and to enable them to use the French language in a range of contexts and situations.

This module is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at level A1.2, where the emphasis is on achieving a pre-intermediate level of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). A student achieving an overall mark of 60% or higher in this module will have demonstrated linguistic competence commensurate with CEFR level A1.2.

Please note: Prospective students should note that this language elective is intended for beginners. Students who took French for the Leaving Certificate examination (or equivalent) cannot be accommodated in this class but should consider signing up for a Beginners’ language elective in Chinese, German, or Spanish instead.
