	Overview
	This module aims at developing students' competence in French further, building on the skills and knowledge acquired in FR151. The course continues to develop students' confidence and accuracy when using the language in a broad range of situations. This module is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at level A2, where the emphasis is on achieving a pre-intermediate level of communication in all four skills, (listening, speaking, reading and writing). A student achieving an overall mark of 60% or higher in this module will have demonstrated linguistic competence commensurate with CEFR level A2.2.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Construct brief essays on a variety of subjects; translate sentences from French to English; show an understanding of grammar rules. Converse in French with some degree of fluency about areas of immediate relevance - basic and family information, university studies, student life etc. Apply new vocabulary introduced in class. Produce a variety of texts based on work done in classes; summarise the meaning of texts; employ vocabulary suited to a particular topic or area of language. Complete continuous assessment and class assignments correctly; answer exam questions with relevant and precise information based on course work throughout the semester. Read and analyse short French literary texts; comment orally and in writing.

Could the result of this module be capped? If the required elements are not passed, or the attendance requirement is not met.
Penalties: Students have to pass two of the three elements examined in this module. The three relevant elements are: (1) Section A of the examination paper; (2) section B of the examination paper; (3) the oral examination. Late submission of assessed coursework or examination materials will result in a reduction of the original grade by 5% (5 marks) per day. Assessed coursework or examination materials will normally have to be submitted through Turnitin. Late submission of work owing to medical or compelling reasons will not be penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the missed class and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a medical certificate) Attendance for this module is monitored regularly. If attendance falls below 70% of session hours, the mark will be capped at 35% for this module. This module condition will not be applied to repeat examinations. Absence owing to medical or compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the missed class and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a medical certificate).

	Autumn Supplementals/Resits
	Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes Students must pass two of the three required examination components to pass overall. The three relevant components are: (1) Section A of the examination paper; (2) section B of the examination paper; (3) the oral examination. If a student has passed the written or oral examination in the January sitting, they are not required to resit that examination in the Autumn examination session, but all failed examinations must be retaken in the Autumn exam period. Continuous Assessment marks are carried forward to the Autumn period and contribute to the calculation of the grade for that exam session.
