This course presents the fundamental elements of portfolio and asset pricing theory. The course demonstrates how portfolios of assets are constructed, selected and evaluated by individual investors. A detailed analysis of modern portfolio theory is presented. The Markowitz method for calculating a portfolio with an optimal mix of assets will be discussed in detail. The student will also learn a variety of techniques that are required to provide inputs for this portfolio problem. Two of the main equilibrium asset pricing models will be thoroughly explored. The student will learn how these models can be used to infer what equilibrium prices will be for individual assets and how to empirically test these theories. Students will be introduced to the Bloomberg Terminal and will complete the Bloomberg Markets Concepts (BMC) certificate during the course of the module.
