Module RESEARCH PLACEMENT

Module code: FM803
Credits: 5
Semester: Year-Long
Department: GRADUATE SKILLS
International: No
Overview Overview

Students may have an opportunity to visit an academic or research group outside Maynooth University to gain more extensive research experience. Examples of such research experience include, but are not limited to, training in an advanced technique, extended access to specialised equipment/resources or appropriate field work. Such opportunities are limited and are only possible when arranged by the student’s supervisor and agreed with the host organisation and supervisor. It is recommended that a supervisor in the external host organisation is involved in planning the specific research learning outcomes for the student along with the student’s MU supervisor. These research-specific learning outcomes must be appropriate to the period of the research placement.

Completion of this module may require the student to attend workshops or seminars, complete training (including online training), maintain a reflective journal recording the student’s experience of their learning and/or completion of specific tasks or assessments. The content will be designed by the student’s supervisor so as to ensure that the student can achieve the module’s learning outcomes and that the supervisor can assess that the learning outcomes have been met by the student. The duration of the research placement should be decided by the supervisor in consultation with the host organization.
