Students may have an opportunity to visit an appropriate workplace outside Maynooth University to gain work-related experience relevant to their research. Such opportunities are limited and are only possible when arranged by the studentís supervisor and agreed with the host organisation. It is recommended that a supervisor in the host organisation is involved in planning the specific learning outcomes for the student along with the studentís MU supervisor. These learning outcomes must be appropriate to the period of the work-based placement. A reflective journal should be maintained by the student to record their learning experience on this module. It is also expected that the supervisor in the host organisation will report to the MU supervisor on the studentís activities during the placement.
Indicative content: Completion of this module may require the student to attend workshops or seminars, complete training (including online training), maintain a reflective journal recording the studentís experience of their learning and/or completion of specific tasks or assessments. The content will be designed by the studentís supervisor so as to ensure that the student can achieve the moduleís learning outcomes and that the supervisor can assess that the learning outcomes have been met by the student. The duration of the work-based placement should be decided by the supervisor in consultation with the host organization.
