On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• Develop simple working text-based programs in an established programming language using appropriate structures and libraries.
• Use structural programming paradigm to build programs consisting of multiple functions/procedures where appropriate.
• Discuss the syntax of the language, available data types and scope of variables (local vs global).
• Develop numerical solutions to simple problems using convergence testing where appropriate.
• Implement simple numerical integration, differentiation and root-finding algorithms.
• Use text files to input and output data from a program.
