	Overview
	: This module explores developing histories, discourses and canonical orthodoxies in the field of educational leadership. Students will critically examine differing leadership models/theories and interrogate the array of adjectives, strategies and competences pertinent to the study of the topic at all levels. Central to that is a detailed exploration of the often dualistic relationship between leadership and management. Underpinning the approach is a commitment to interrogate theory and practice. The module invites participants to critically analyse and evaluate their own practices within their institutions thus encouraging the development of their own intellectual framework of values, attitudes and practice. The module will afford participants the opportunity to engage with the latest education research relevant to educational leadership.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Provide an overview of key concepts and issues connected with educational leadership in diverse contexts. Have a conceptual understanding of a range of theoretical perspectives, models and approaches to educational leadership and consider them in the context of their institution. Consider and evaluate external/internal and global/local factors that influence Leadership direction. Draw on theoretical perspectives related to educational leadership, critically articulate their understanding and engagement with practical educational issues and problems.
