Module CAPSTONE PROJECT

Module code: ED685
Credits: 20
Semester: Year-Long
Department: EDUCATION
International: No
Coordinator: Dr Anthony Malone (EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

This module engages with and builds on the learning of Research Methods (ED684) module. The design assists students in carrying out an independent capstone project from its inception through to writing up for submission. The Capstone Project is a summative piece of work that enables students to explore an area of interest to them. The project is intended to develop the students’ critical skills in applying theories and methods to work within a defined academic area. The assignment is a coherent presentation of a project demonstrating an ability to clearly articulate the focus of the research, formulate a research question and conduct a unique practice-based research project. The research design must provide a clear rationale for choice of methodology, literature, and evaluation.

The focus must be drawn from one of the five core modules in the first year of the programme. These modules are:

1. Leading & Managing Educational Innovation (ED675)
2. Leadership for Enhancing Cultures of Communication (ED676)
3. The Person and Professional: Who Am I as a Leader (ED677)
4. Educational Leadership: Legal Contexts, Policy & Practice (ED678)
5. Coaching & Mentoring in & as Leadership Practice (ED679)

All students are offered the support of a supervisor and the supervision model is designed in order to provide structured supports for peer-to-peer learning in a group setting alongside individual supervision.
