Introduction to advanced topics in Labour Supply, Labour Demand, Job Search models, Wage Determination and Unemployment. Both theoretical models and the tools of empirical analysis are considered. Labour supply topics may include the effect of fixed costs of working, household membership and inter-temporal labour supply as well as discrete choice econometric models and the Heckman selection model. Labour demand topics can include multi-factor labour demand, earnings inequality and immigration. Wage determination topics may include the impact of monopsony power, bargaining, and compensating wage differentials. Unemployment topics include matching models of the labour market, active labour market policy and econometric approaches to policy evaluation, including difference-in-difference models.
