• Discuss the interactions between bioinformatics, computer science, engineering and biological science.
• Explain how database searching is best carried out.
• Describe modern genome sequencing methods.
• Describe how genes are annotated in genomes.
• Explain the process of generating multiple sequence alignments.
• Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of various protein structure prediction methods.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): 2-hour written examination at the end of semester 2: 70%. Continuous Assessment: 30%

• Pass standard: 40%

• Pass Standard 40%. Failure to attend and engage in the continual assessment component of this module will result in a technical fail.
• Penalties: Late submission of continuous assessment accepted with penalty (up to 3days 10%, more than 3 days 25%), in the absence of extenuating circumstances.
