Module ANTI-RACISM 2

Module code: AN216
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Department: ANTHROPOLOGY
International: Yes
Coordinator: Prof. Hana Cervinkova (ANTHROPOLOGY)
Overview Overview

In this module, we will examine the rich and growing array of responses to different forms of racisms in contemporary societies. A special attention will be paid to the role of collective memory in inspiring the ongoing critique of institutional and systemic racisms in these varied contexts. The basis for the module will be several case studies, which will be explored through preparatory readings followed by discussions with academic and community experts who will participate in classes either physically on campus or online. In the Irish context, we will consider the experience of the Irish Travellers as well as that of different immigrant communities. Throughout the module, we will debate how democratic societies can respond to racial prejudice and nurture more inclusive and just forms of citizenship and belonging. The 100% CA assessment will be based on individual response papers and reflections, and group projects.
