On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• Understand the role of the finance function of an organisation and the financial environment in which it operates;
• Assess financial markets and alternative sources of finance to meet organisational finance requirements;
• Demonstrate an ability to understand and advise on working capital techniques;
• Demonstrate the ability to evaluate alternative investment decisions;
• Evaluate the performance of a company using financial statement analysis;
• Understand the nature of the dividend decision, alternative policies that companies can adopt, their significance to investors and alternatives to cash dividends; and
• Demonstrate an ability to understand and advise on personal financial management including: risk management, debt, savings, investments and retirement planning.
