This module introduces concepts and theoretical perspectives on civil society organisations, social movements, the concept of civil, political, and social and cultural rights. It explores case studies in the voluntary, welfare and environmental sectors, the difference between voluntary and other types of organisations, how voluntary organisations work, how civil society, voluntary organisations, and social movements engage with policy processes, the state and statutory bodies. It explores the statutory and legal context in Ireland for civil society organisations and volunteering.
