Module Objective: To give a rigorous course in the representation theory of finite groups.

Selected topics could include some of the following: Modules and representations of groups; Schur's Lemma; Maschke's Theorem and Wedderburn's Theorem; The character table; orthogonality relations, tensor products, induction and restriction of characters; character tables of small groups, symmetric groups; Clifford theory and characters of alternating groups; rational representations and character formula for the general linear group; Burnside's Theorem; Frobenius groups; Frobenius-Schur indicator and involutions.

This module may be taught as a reading course.
