This module provides students with an overview of modern legal history post-1800. Students will be introduced to key moments in modern legal history, with a particular emphasis on Ireland and the United Kingdom. It will consider, amongst other topics, the entanglement of Church and State, the manner in which mass movements engaged with and articulated legal arguments and changes in the law that occurred as a result, and the structure of the Irish State after independence. It will also, where appropriate, us a comparative European and international lens to consider how local legal histories resonate with, interact with, are influenced by and influence more global trends.
