	Overview
	This weekly research methods class covers aspects of research including planning, data collection, analysis, and presentation techniques, building on the work carried out in GY201. GY202 is a practical, hands-on module, with students learning key skills for future success in second and third-year Geography, and future employment. Students will carry out a number of projects during the module � each involving different aspects of geography and different research approaches and methods.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Demonstrate further data collection, processing, computer, software and presentation skills Analyse and interpret data at a range of geographical scales using GIS Describe and understand a range of research methods and their broader relevance Apply theoretical learning in practical situations Further develop group working and co-operation skills Gain experience of research methodology useful in second- and third-year Geography and future employment

Assessment

	Autumn Supplementals/Resits
	Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes Students may opt to do supplemental continuous assessment over the Summer (details will normally be posted on the GY202 Moodle page, but students should also contact the lecturer), but will have to surrender any continuous assessment marks earned over the regular lecturing year if they opt to do so. Otherwise, the continuous assessment mark will be carried forward to the Autumn, without scope for improvement. Only those students who have officially registered to repeat/resit their module in the Autumn will be allowed to submit supplemental continuous assessment.
