Twentieth and Twenty-first Century Germany: History, Memory & Politics
Drawing on key moments and events in twentieth and twenty-first century German history (i.e. the Holocaust, the experience of war, terrorism, German-German division and unification etc.) and how these have been critically discussed and represented in memory, visual and museum cultures, this module offers students an in-depth understanding of the complexities of contemporary German history, societies and politics. Throughout the module, we will explore popular debates, controversies and scandals, as well as issues around memory and memorialisation.
Course reader will be provided.
**This 5-ECTS credit module may be used as part of the engagement with texts required for accreditation by the Teaching Council of Ireland. All applications submitted for Teaching Council accreditation are, however, subject to the Teaching Council’s internal evaluation processes.
