This course provides an introduction to the study of crime fiction on the basis of two unusual examples, "Der Richter und sein Henker" (1952) by Friedrich Dürrenmatt and "Tann¿d" (2006) by Andrea Maria Schenkel. It will offer an introduction to the genre and encourage discussion of some historical, political, social and philosophical issues raised in the texts. Former Beginners should note that English translations of both course texts are available. **This 5-ECTS credit module may be used as part of the engagement with texts required for accreditation by the Teaching Council of Ireland. All applications submitted for Teaching Council accreditation are, however, subject to the Teaching Council’s internal evaluation processes.
