Module STATISTICS & DATA ANALYSIS

Module code: EP404
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Quota: 36
Department: EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS
International: Yes
Coordinator: Dr Patrick Kavanagh (EXPERIMENTAL PHYSICS)
Overview Overview

The aim of this module is to develop practical skills in statistical analysis and data reduction.

Module content
Scientific Python environment is used to develop a suite of routines which have general applicability in a wide range of data reduction applications. Data sets with the desired properties are first simulated using Monte Carlo rejection, and separate functions are then used to analyse the data, comparing the results with the parameters used during the simulation stage.

This module specifically addresses the following topics of the Core of Physics, as defined by Institute of Physics:

- Probability distributions
