Courses / Module

• Reflect on their own language use and numeracy and define appropriate personal learning targets and actions suitable for a second year student
• Demonstrate further competence in the Mathematical concepts, skills and terminology necessary for teaching across all ages in the primary school
• Utilise a collaborative learning and problem-solving approach to the learning of Mathematics
• Demonstrate and develop further competency, accuracy, confidence and fluency in spoken and written Gaeilge and English, appropriate to a second-year student
• Use and develop a range of language registers, genres and vocabulary in Gaeilge and English

• Independent learning, workshops with hands-on experience, problem solving, group work and investigations, collaborative learning, group discussions, ICT and lecturing, assessment and tasks in oral language, reading and writing.

• Other detail(s): Each of the three competency components are equally weighted 33.3% Cumas na Gaeilge Oral exam (25%), written exam in May (in-house) (25%), continuous portfolio (50%) (Please note that students must pass each of the three Cumas na Gaeilge elements) English competency 2 hour (in-house) exam in Semester 1. Maths Competency in Semester 2 (University exam)

• PASS / FAIL Students must pass each of the three components in this module individually: Cumas na Gaeilge (40%), English Competency (70%), Maths Competency (70%). In Cumas na Gaeilge, the standard is in line with 40% at a B2 level in oral language and written & reading comprehension skills on the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Learning (CEFR). It is a requirement of this module to pass Gaeilge at 40% in each of the written examination, oral examination and Fillteán Foghlama. Students must submit an electronic Punann eolais at the end of the year. Satisfactory attendance is a requirement of this module

• The minimum pass standard of 70% for each of these subject still applies. The English Competency supplemental will be an in-house exam. The Maths Competency supplemental will be a University scheduled exam. The Cumas na Gaeilge supplemental will be an in-house exam.
• University scheduled written examination (Autumn): 120 minutes
