	Overview
	This module is designed to complement and integrate with the module entitled Language 1 through students� engagement in discussion seminars and reflection activities. Students will become familiar with the communicative approach to the teaching of Irish and will examine its implications within the context of the Irish educational system. Particular emphasis will be placed on the adoption of methodologies for the teaching of Irish in the primary school classroom. The students will explore Irish language literature and its application to the classroom environment. Students will be exposed to a variety of literature including appropriate genre for the development of language and literacy in Irish in the primary school.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Discuss the linkages which exist between language theories, literature, methodologies and practice in order to deepen their understanding of literacy and language teaching. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of methodologies for the teaching of Irish in the primary classroom. Identify and apply the principles of the communicative approach to language teaching. Evaluate literature written in the Irish language from the perspective of its themes, genre and appropriateness for classroom use. Examine the narrative genre in Irish literature and demonstrate knowledge of appropriate uses of these texts for the classroom.
