On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

Discuss the linkages which exist between language theories, literature, methodologies and practice in order to deepen their understanding of literacy and language teaching.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of methodologies for the teaching of Irish in the primary classroom.

Identify and apply the principles of the communicative approach to language teaching.

Evaluate literature written in the Irish language from the perspective of its themes, genre and appropriateness for classroom use.

Examine the narrative genre in Irish literature and demonstrate knowledge of appropriate uses of these texts for the classroom.
