A year of study is 60 credits. First year - Either 15 or 30 credits of Computer Science is taken with Mathematics (Mathematics must be taken with Computer Science in first year)
- Plus choose 1 or 2 other Science subjects - Biology or *Engineering Science, Chemistry, Data Science, Experimental Physics, Mathematical Physics. *Engineering Science cannot be taken with Biology. Students taking Engineering Science must also take Computer Science. Students may take Computer Science and not take Engineering Science.
Second year - Computer Science, Mathematics (Mathematics must be taken with Computer Science in second year)
- Continue with 1 of your first year subjects
- Optional 10 credit Electives or Critical Skills
OR - Option to transfer to a specialised degree MH602 (BSc Computer Science through Science) if students have taken at least 22.5 credits of Computer Science in first year including the module CS172.
Third year - Computer Science
- Plus continue with 1 other subject from second year
Fourth year - Computer Science may be taken as a Single Major or as a Double Major with the other third year subject
Please note: - Students taking Computer Science in second year must also take Mathematics
- Students intending to take a Single Major degree must take Mathematics (Pure) or Mathematics (Applied) in third year

- Advanced topics such as computer vision, theoretical computer science, robotics, cryptography and artificial intelligence may be studied, depending on the pathway students take.
- The Department of Computer Science at Maynooth University was founded in 1987 and is located in the Eolas Building, a €20M state-of-the-art ICT hub, which opened in 2015. Our laboratories and equipment provide excellent facilities for practical work and all our courses include a mix of lectures and lab work.
- We endeavour to provide a supportive and enjoyable atmosphere for learning through our Computer Science Support Centre, extensive assistance during practical work and we are always available outside of lectures to help our students.
- Either 15 or 30 credits of Computer Science.
- If taking the 30 credit option: the extra 15 credits are timetabled outside of groups 1-6 so you may choose other subjects from groups 1, 2, 3, 4, 6.
- Only one of these can be taken as a double subject since the extra 15 credits for each are taught at the same time: Anthropology, Computer Science, German (beginner), History, International Development, Law, Sociology, Spanish (beginner).
- Recommend O3/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics.
