Mature students - Information:

A mature student is 23 years or older by 1st January in the year of entry to the University. For part-time degrees the mature age is 21. Admission is based on your application. Written assessment and/or interview.

O4/H7 Leaving Certificate Mathematics or equivalent is recommended.

Apply to the CAO by February 1st 2019. Late applications from mature students may be accepted after this date - consult the Undergraduate Studies website for updates. Application may not be made to the CAO after May 1st 2019.

Mature students must complete the CAO section for mature applicants fully, indicating clearly past or current studies, and outlining educational goals and objectives. Applicants are assessed on the basis of the information provided on their CAO application form. All questions should be answered in full.

Mature student applicants who have a disability

Course structure

This option will suit students interested in taking a language with Business (International).

1st year

15 credits of Business (International) or 30 credits of Business (extra 15 credits timetabled in Group 6. These extra 15 credits in group 6 are ONLY available to students also taking the 15 credits of Business timetabled in group 2).
Choose up to 3 other subjects (or Critical Skills) from the 5 groups available (max 1 per group). NB In order to be recognised by the Teaching Council as a second level business teacher, you must take 30 credits of Business (Accounting and Economics for Business) - these extra 15 credits are timetabled at the same time as subjects in Group 6.

2nd & 3rd year

30 credits of Business (International) plus one of your other 1st year subjects as a Double Major, Major/Minor or as a Minor
Optional 10 credit Electives in 2nd year

Transfer into our specialised degree in International Business. To be eligible to do so, you must pass the 30 credit Business (International) option.
Alternatively you must have passed the 15 credit Business (International) option and passed the subject Accounting and passed the subject Economics/Finance in first year.

Students may apply to study overseas after 2nd year (on Erasmus or Study Abroad) and graduate with a BA (International) after 4 years. See the International Studies website for details.

Please note: if you wish to gain accreditation in Business as a subject eligible for 2nd level teaching (after the required postgraduate degree in teaching), you should choose Business (Management) – MN1MV30.
